Mackerel Sky is a collection of North and South Carolina musician’s observations. These are full time, part time, retired musicians, or musicians who just play for their own enjoyment. They are of all ages and use the expressions unique to their style of music or generation.
You’ll hear stories from the musician community. I hope the listener will enjoy the various perspectives. Most interviews are in the musician’s home and you’ll hear their neighborhood or family in the background. It’s a bonus that’s a part of the process.
Gary Baker and I started this project many years ago. On some interviews you will hear Gary’s voice.
I would like to say thank you to all the musicians who I’ve interviewed and have allowed me to post their comments and stories.
If you know of any musician that I should interview, please feel free to contact me.
David
Ps: Mackerel Sky is a sailor’s term. When you see a Mackerel Sky it means the weather is about to change. Music like the weather is always changing and a lot of the times forecast a change before it happens.
“Mackerel skies and mares' tails Make tall ships carry short sails”
"Mackerel sky, mackerel sky. Never long wet and never long dry."
